How to Skin Peaches (for a cobbler, pie, canning, etc)

By

Peelin' Peaches!!

So the other day made a DELICIOUS blueberry and peach cobbler. Here's the recipe I used: http://www.recipekey.com/new/therecipes/Blueberry-Cobbler As I was making the cobbler, I realizedthat peeling the peaches cn actually be a huge challenge. So, I'm going to help you out by giving you step by step instructions! First of all, (1) choose peaches that aren't too firm, but aren't too mushy. You want to be able to handle the peaches without bruising them but also you don't want them to be rock hard!. Ok what's next? (2) Bring a pot of water to a boil on your stove top. (3) Drop the peaches into the boiling water to BLANCH them for 30 - 90 seconds. (4) Take the peaches out of the boiling water and drop them into a bowl of ice water to cool them off. (5) Using the edge of a knife, start to peel the skin of the peach. The skin may be soft enough to peel it with your fingers after you get it started. (6) Whaaahhllaahh!! You have a peeled peach to use for that perfect pie or cobbler. Enjoy!!

Thanks so much for the tip. I am getting ready to make 2 peach pies for friends and, sort of, remembered my grandmother doing this. I wasn't sure so I looked it up on the Internet and found your site. Peeling peaches has always been a difficult task. This will make it easier and I make make more pies and cobblers as a result. :^)

Thanks for the reminder, I had decided to make my mothers Pech Tartin but had forgotten how to peel a peach, for a Provencal lunch with friends looking out to sea on Sunday and this is going to be the finale with mango sorbet and a grenadine coulis.

Thank you

A few drops of lemon juice will help keep the peaches from turning dark in color.

if you cut a very small X in the bottom of each peach before blancing, it gives you a place to start when peeling.

Thanks so much for the tips on skinning peaches. I just return from South Carolina with a basket full of beautiful peaches. I just can not wait to make my cobbler. I was able to remove all of the skins in little to no time at all.

Went online to find directions to peel peaches because the method I was using was not working. Imagine? I cooked them too long. Cooking for less time was a perfect tip.

I’m very passionate about cooking. I love researching cooking sites and I came up with this package site wherein I gain so much knowledgeable information about cooking skills. This Gourmandia sites has it all what we’re looking for, especially for a mother like me who’s always busy preparing dishes for my husband and my kids. This site offers everything about cooking; it has a wide variety of recipes and also provides educational information. I was so glad for having this site with me all the way!
